The Paralympic Games legacy project Accentuate is running a project, named Creative Landscapes, led by English Heritage, which is exploring new approaches to increasing access to the historic environment. The project has invited participatory arts / environmental organisations or artists’ collectives to apply to its new Trail Blazing commission. The successful organisation will develop an approach to delivering an accessible guided tour and stand-alone trail that can be adapted to almost any historic environment.
Among other elements, the commission will involve:
• devising a methodology for delivering a low-cost guided tour and temporary stand-alone trail which can be adapted for use by organisers of Heritage Open Days
• offering a genuinely inclusive experience for users of the tour and trail
• using a specific site in Gosport, Hampshire as an example and demonstration site
• engaging local disabled people in the development and user testing of the tour and trail
• presenting practical steps that organisers could take to deliver similar tours and trails at different sites
The fee for the project is £6,750, inclusive of tax, expenses, materials and transport, and the fee will be paid in 4 instalments. A site visit will take place on 11 July, and the deadline for applications is 18 July 2011.
