Copyright Licensing Agency launches Print Disability Licence PDF Print E-mail

The Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) has launched a Print Disability Licence which allows organisations to reproduce copyright works in accessible formats such as large print, Braille or audiobooks, and to circulate them to disabled people. The licence has been updated to include more disabled people in the definition of ‘print disability’, following a request by the Accessibility Action Group, a forum of publishing organisations, and the Right to Read Alliance.

Anna Tylor, Chairperson of the Right to Read Alliance, said: ‘Access to books is vital for education, employment and for the pure pleasure of reading. We appreciate the co-operation we have received from the CLA and publishers in improving access to print material for people with print impairments particularly dyslexia.’

Dr Alicia Wise, Chairperson of the Accessibility Action Group, said: ‘The CLA licence provides a really important safety net by enabling accessible copies to be made when an appropriate version is not available commercially.’
