Do you know of examples of joint working between community groups and activists and local councillors?
Urban Forum and bassac are writing a short pamphlet on how community groups and activists can best work with local councillors. The aim is to highlight the role that community groups and activists play in instigating change, and hence in making local democracy work. The leaflet will contain stories of a number of community organisations which have made a difference in their areas, and worked with local councillors to achieve this. It is intended to help for community groups unsure how or if to engage with local councillors, and to demonstrate to councillors the importance of their making links with the community sector.
Urban Forum would like to identify examples of where community groups have joined forces with councillors on a particular project or piece of work, and then to interview those involved. The examples can vary: they may be short- or long-term campaigns to persuade the council to change their approach on something, a long-term project to provide a much needed service for the community, or anything in between.
The pamphlet will be distributed widely across the community sector and with councillors.
