The Royal Town and Planning Institute (RTPI) has awarded the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) its Equality and Diversity Award 2009 for its inclusive design strategy. The RTPI commended the ODA’s consistent approach to venues, using the same principles and standards whether building new facilities or adapting existing venues, and heralded the Games venues as models of current best practice. It welcomed the ODA’s holistic view regarding accessibility, helped by the an access panel which was established in the early planning stages, and the attempt to create sustainable venues which can cater to a wide range of people’s needs now and in future.
