It is very important that each disabled employee has their own escape strategy (a personal emergency egress plan or ‘PEEP’) designed to suit his or her individual requirements. A PEEP for a disabled person should be thought of alongside fire safety planning for all employees and not in isolation. Employers must discuss with their disabled employees what their needs are and then look at what their premises are capable of, before the PEEP’s can be devised. For further advice on ‘PEEP’s’ refer to: ‘Personal Emergency Egress Plans’ – The Northern Officer Group (1993) Available from CAE. |
