Transport PDF Print E-mail

Transport is a complex and diverse subject. There are many central and local Government departments and regulatory bodies controlling different aspects of transport, and they cover everything from leaving your home through to reaching your destination. Therefore this section cannot attempt to cover everything. Instead, the main transport issues that will be of most relevance to your access group are covered. The focus is on public transport, but car travel is also addressed briefly.

This section looks mainly at transport policy. For more detailed design guidance, refer to the ‘User environments’ section or to the Department for Transport’s publication Inclusive Mobility.

The Disabled Persons Transport Advisory Committee has created an online resource for disabled and less mobile travellers called Door to Door. It has been developed to give disabled people information and advice about using all forms of transport. Click here to visit the Door to Door website.
