The ‘Approved Documents’ offer practical guidance on some of the ways of meeting the requirements of the Building Regulations. While they are used as guidance when making improvements to existing buildings, they are not enforceable by law to existing buildings that are not being improved.

Your access group should become familiar with Approved Document M – Access to and use of buildings, which accompanies Part M of the Building Regulations. This can be downloaded from the Planning Portal website.
