Vision for Equality Conference
The charity Guide Dogs is hosting this conference, which takes place on 19 January in central London. The event will bring together representatives of Government, local authorities and service providers, along with charities and voluntary organisations. It will identify shortfalls in the provision for visually impaired people and the measures needed to address them. Speakers include:
  • Nick Hurd, Minister for Civil Society
  • Sir Bert Massie CBE, Former Chair of the Disability Rights Commission
  • Fazilet Hadi, Group Director, Inclusive Society at the Royal National Institute of Blind People
  • Ann Frye OBE, consultant specialising in the transport requirements of disabled people

Public authorities and the Equality Act seminar
The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) is holding a lunchtime seminar named Public authority decision making and the Equality Act on 21 January 2011. The seminar is to be held by John Halford of Bindmans LLP Solicitors, and will look at how the new equality duties that come into force in April 2011 can be used to prompt public authorities to promote equality and defend disabled people’s access to services.
