The aims and objectives of the access group should determine the kinds of roles that need to be filled. While it is important for the work to be attractive to potential members, it must be in the context of the group’s goals.

As a group, you should answer the following questions:

• Why do we need members?
• How do we value or show our appreciation to our members?
• What does our group offer members?
• What do we want new members to do?
• How much time should we expect members to dedicate, and how could we build in flexibility?
• What do we offer in return?
• What message are we trying to convey to members and to external contacts?
