When a donation/support is received, this should not be seen as the end of a fundraising process but the beginning of a funding relationship with your donor. Your group should consider:

  • thanking the donor formally for their support
  • inviting the donor to see your project or activity
  • creating publicity for your donor (if this is what they want)
  • keeping the donor informed of how their donation is working for your clients
  • inviting the donor to open days and other events
  • asking for support again – it is a common myth that you cannot ask the same donor twice

The review

No fundraising plan is foolproof. It is important to build in regular reviews of the success of your plans and, if necessary, adapt or alter them. If you have not met your targets, ask yourself why not, and consider what you need to do about it.

Changes within your organisation, or external to it, may provide new opportunities or close down certain avenues. Remember to be flexible.

Use your review to identify how much you put in for how much you get out. Be honest about how much time, energy and resources have gone in to a particular activity. Has it been worth that investment?
