The group recognises the significant barriers that lead to exclusion and isolation for disabled people hence its establishment in 1996. As disabled people, the establishment of the access group helps provide a strong voice with which to put forward our ideas about the society in which we wish to live and a society which includes rather than excludes us. Access being a key issue for us.
We: Raise any issues to do with access, and related issues, that the group members wish to discuss; dentify and/or responds to projects and proposals for improving accessibility within the Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan Local Authorities areas; Monitor and evaluates the development and delivery of Cardiff County Council's Accessibility Action Plans; Suggest ways in which the work undertaken to enhance accessibility in the Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan Local Authorities can be promoted and publicised; Respond positively to requests for assistance on disability access matters from Cardiff Council and or other parties ; Provide regular progress reports to CVCDP, Councils and other parties; Campaign to improve accessibility in its widest context.
