Notes: Access in Barnet is a subgroup of Disability Action in the Borough of Barnet. The group is made up of disabled people who meet with representatives from the local authority and voluntary organisations. We checked planning lists and liaise with the planning, building control and engineering departments of the local authority. We talk with developers to ensure buildings meet the legal requirements regarding access for disabled and older people. We monitor and advise on refurbishments and extensions made to public buildings, and we have input into local policy-making.

Notes: Our aim is to drive home the social model of disability and ensure that wherever possible, buildings, information, human resources etc are accessible and accommodating to people with all kinds of disabilities. Certain members of the Group sit on committees and groups within the voluntary and statutory sectors to ensure that any decisions on planning and provision of services are made with our needs catered for. We stress that barriers we face are not always physical but people's attitudes and we try to introduce training and ideas to improve these.Centre for Accessible Environments

Notes: Croydon Mobility Forum (CMF) constantly reviews and makes recommendations to improve the access and facilities for people with disabilities and older people in Croydon. We do not discuss individual access / mobility issues but review overall policy issues and current proposals involving all forms of transportation in the Borough and facilities at stations, car parks and other transport interchanges. Elected members representing people with disabilities in the categories of voluntary sector workers, service users and carers meet with senior mangers from the Council, Taxi Organisations, Transport for London, Councillors and Bus, Tram and Rail companies, to discuss how best to improve services in Croydon. The Forum also acts as an advisory body on all accessible transport issues in the Borough.
